SimAssist offers a read-only mode.
This mode is always automatically enabled where no valid license can be found for SimAssist or, where user management is enabled, no permissions have been assigned for the current user, or the user has not logged in correctly when launching the application.
The read-only mode ensures that the software can be used with limited functionality even without a license – in other words, it can be read only.
This means that you can open and view projects, but cannot make any changes to these or create any new projects.
Read-only mode is indicated by the string READ-ONLY MODE in the title bar within the frame application, which appears as soon as you launch the software (see Figure 1).
The modules and plug-ins from the module library are displayed, but cannot be used. As soon as a valid license is available for a module or plug-in, the element is no longer grayed out and can be used as usual.

The following interaction options are available in read-only mode:
•Open and view an existing project
•Call and edit the options
•Call and view the log file
•Call and view info
•Call and view the SimAssist help documentation
To exit read-only mode and use the software in normal productive use, you can – depending on the reason why the software is in read-only mode – either specify a valid license in the options and restart the software or
when restarting the software, log in with a valid user who has been granted the appropriate rights for using the software.
